A Craftsman's Tools

Although this reed pen is in fact sensible,
of a different substance than the writer,
yet it is an intimate friend.
Likewise, every tool of a craftsman, though lifeless,
is the familiar friend of the Human spirit.

-Mathnawi [IV, 875-876]

Seems wherever you go there are tools to use - internet access, cars to rent, untold riches to buy in stores. Compare that to what an early hominid had. We are so blessed.

Hi Don,

Not only earth, but outer space, also!

I don't know why, but I just heard in my head, "Become one with the spoon." (I think that's how they say you can bend a spoon.)

I'm not sure how many tools here are in outer space now, but someday there should be more and more.

Outer space tool..is any space outside of us??? the only tool i believe is our mind..I still to know the worker...

What about a synergism between our minds and tools, both tools our minds have developed from experience and external tools, such as the wheel and garden hoes and such?

Hi Don,

International space stations, satellites, telescopes, Mars rovers.... already lots of tools in space!

Shubhajit,

I think Rumi would say, that even the tools in space would be familiar friends of our spirit. :)

Don,

Looking at it that way, it's all synergy.

Hi, Sophia.

Yes,International space stations, satellites, telescopes, Mars rovers.... already lots of tools in space! You're right. I guess when I thought of space full of tools it would be like you're on a trip to Alpha Centauri or the like and everywhere there are tools, like you pass by a PC every minute or two, but you know, that can't be, you'd crash into them!

Never mind.
