You Are Not Alone

When you close your doors, and make darkness within, remember never to say that you are alone, for you are not alone; nay, God is within, and your genius is within.

-- Epictetus

A Blooming Heart

That which God said to the rose,
and caused it to laugh in full-blown beauty,
He said to my heart,
and made it a hundred times more beautiful.

Abandon Suffering Through Persistence

Like a fine stallion
Struck with a whip,
Be ardent & chastened.
Through conviction
Virtue, persistence,
Concentration, judgment,
Consummate in knowledge & conduct,
You'll abandon this not-insignificant pain.

-Dhammapada, 10, translation by Thanissaro Bhikkhu.

Seek Light

Prosveta Publishing is pleased to offer you the Daily Meditation for this 2008-10-28.

"Those who succeed in elevating their consciousness to such a
degree that they comprehend the works of God are able to
discover the quintessence of all sacred books, for the truths
these books contain are inscribed in the life of the universe
and in their own life.
God himself is inaccessible, unfathomable, beyond all
understanding, but he placed within us and within his created
universe all the elements which would allow us to move closer to
him and decipher some of his messages. The first of these
messages is light, since it is by means of light that he
manifested himself at the beginning of the world, when he said,
‘Let there be light!’ So if we wish to hear God ‘speak’ to us,
we must seek light, for it is through light that he speaks to
all creatures."

I Am, I Am

I am the Lord and the Cosmic Soul; I am myself the Cosmic Body. I am Brahma, Vishnu, and Rudra, as well as Gauri, Brahmi, and Vaishnavi. I am the sun and the stars and I am the Lord of the stars. I am the various species of beasts and birds; I am also the outcaste and thief. I am the evil doer and the wicked deed; I am the righteous person and the virtuous deed.

What if....

Prosveta Publishing is pleased to offer you the Daily Meditation for this 2008-10-29.

"After death, when human beings have left their physical body,
they enter the lower astral plane, where they are subjected to
all the injustice and suffering they have inflicted on others.
You will say, ‘But what if they have done wrong involuntarily
without realizing it?’ In the eyes of cosmic Intelligence,
ignorance is also unacceptable. But the aim of cosmic
Intelligence is not revenge, nor even punishment; above all it
wants humans to become conscious, and so it makes them
experience the suffering they have inflicted on others, so that
they can learn, understand and become perfect.
Some creatures cross this lower astral region very quickly, as
they have not committed very serious faults; others remain there
a long time, suffering. When this stage is over, they enter the
higher astral region, where they feel joy and happiness
proportionate to the good they have done, for they must also
become aware of their good actions. If they have given others
courage, hope and light, if they have awakened faith and love,
they live these same states."

Listening to the Learned

Even though he has no learning, if a man but listens to the learned
That will be his staff of strength in adversity.
Words from the lips of upright men
Are like a steadying staff in a slippery place.

If At First You Don't Succeed...

"The thing to do when you have made a mistake is not to give up doing what you were doing and start something altogether new, but to start over again with the thing you began badly and try, for the love of God, to do it well."

–Thomas Merton

The Hidden Oneness

"According to Kabbalah, God has hidden Himself, His oneness, from us so that we can find it, realize it, and experience it. However, since you and I are sparks of God, it is as if God were hiding Himself from an aspect of Himself. Therefore, our journey in search of the One is on behalf of the One and for the sake of the One. Our job is to serve God in His process of self-reflection and knowledge. We have been put in this world of hiddenness to find the Divine in us, to discover that we are souls — sparks of the Divine, act accordingly and thereby reflect God's oneness.

As we elevate ourselves spiritually through the worlds of greater and greater perspective, we will uncover more and more the truth of God's oneness beyond the either/or. We will realize more and more that the many are included within the oneness and permeated by it. And we will experience the ecstasy of love.

This is the journey of our lives. This is the journey God has sent us on. This is our divine mission—to become a living reflection of God, reveal the hidden One, and realize love."

Is Thought Useful to a Spiritual Student?

This is interesting. A lot of the people I run into online tell me to try to get rid of thought, to empty my mind.

Here is a clipping which has a different point of view about thought:

Prosveta Publishing is pleased to offer you the Daily Meditation for this 2009-01-10.

"The knowledge you are given in an initiatic teaching is so far
removed from your usual field of consciousness that it does not
penetrate your brain immediately. But the fact you have heard it
or read it means something of it will remain in your
subconscious, and one day, once your understanding has
developed, this knowledge will resurface in your memory.
In order to reach this understanding more quickly, you must
exercise your brain, which is the best instrument there is. It
does not grow weak with age along with the other organs, for the
divine hierarchies have deposited their powers in it. No, it
doesn’t grow weak, but only provided we nourish it with mental
activity. Thought is a sort of ladder we have received from
cosmic Intelligence, and it is essential we learn to use it to
go higher."

Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov
